6 Ways to Stay Active If You Sit at A Desk All Day

Feeling sluggish when you leave work? It's expected to feel drained by the end of a workday and to lack the energy do anything when you get off. A 9-hour shift is always going to take something out of you. But sitting immobile in front of a computer all day is going to increase that effect. With obesity on the rise, the last thing we need to do is sit still the majority of the day.
So, in an effort to be more health-conscious, here are eight activities you can do to increase your activity while working.
SIT ON AN EXERCISE BALL.
Switch out your chair for an exercise ball. Using an exercise ball forces you to sit up straight, strengthen your core, and tone your muscles. It’s not recommended you sit on the ball all day but, it offers many more benefits than a chair.
TAKE THE STAIRS INSTEAD OF THE ELEVATOR.
The easiest way to get cardio in during your work week is by taking a few flights of stairs. It increases your heart rate and improves energy. When you climb a flight, your body releases chemical endorphins, making you feel happy and calm. It's not only good for health but it will make you feel more focused.
STAND INSTEAD OF SIT.
Just because you have a desk doesn’t mean you have to sit. You could elevate your computer with a riser so you can stand, or if that’s not an option, move to another spot in the office where there’s a taller platform for your computer.
TAKE HOURLY BREAKS.
Sitting for long periods has been linked to heart disease, diabetes, and even dementia. Try getting up from your desk once an hour and moving around for about five minutes. Go to the restroom or just go throw something away in a trashcan across the room. This will activate muscles and promote blood flow. And if you’re someone who is fully preoccupied with work, set a timer so you’re reminded to take breaks.
GO FOR A WALK DURING LUNCH.
Save 10 minutes of your lunch break to go for a walk. Walking will help you digest food, get your blood circulating, and clear your mind. It is easy to be consumed by work and stress around it. Taking a walk will be great for you physically and mentally.
DRINK AT LEAST HALF YOUR WEIGHT IN WATER.
This one has a double reward. Set a goal to drink half your weight in water before you get off. The water will give you amazing health benefits like clearer and brighter skin. It will also cause you to have to pee every 30 minutes forcing you to get up more often.
